Dr. Gaetana Porcelli is a Postdoctoral researcher with a strong background in breast cancer studies, specializing in cancer stem cells and their microenvironment, with a particular emphasis on translational research. In 2019, she joined the Laboratory of Molecular and Cellular Oncology (CMOL) at the University of Palermo during her postgraduate training. She later earned a Ph.D. in the Molecular and Clinical Medicine program at the Department of Promise at the University of Palermo. Her doctoral research focused on the isolation and characterization of adipose-derived stem cells from obese breast cancer patients, uncovering their role in driving metabolic, epigenetic, and transcriptomic alterations that promote tumor progression. Dr. Porcelli’s commitment to investigating the interplay between obesity and breast cancer has been recognized with the prestigious Pezcoller-SIC Postdoctoral Fellowship for 2024–2025, allowing her to further pursue her impactful research in this field.
