Dr. Alice Turdo earned her Master’s degree cum laude in Medical Biotechnology and Molecular Medicine from the University of Palermo in 2011. She subsequently completed her PhD in Immunopharmacology at the same institution in 2015.
During her graduate and doctoral studies, Dr. Turdo worked in the laboratory of Prof. Giorgio Stassi at the University of Palermo, where she gained expertise in performing both in vitro and in vivo experiments using stem cells isolated from mammary carcinomas. In 2013, she moved to the University of Michigan to join the Experimental Breast Cancer Research Laboratory under the mentorship of Prof. Max Wicha. There, she focused on characterizing circulating cancer cells in the blood of metastatic breast cancer patients. Before completing her PhD, Dr. Turdo returned to Italy to rejoin Prof. Stassi’s laboratory and was awarded a three-year fellowship from the Italian Association for Cancer Research (AIRC). In 2022, she spent half a year as a visiting scientist at Sidra Medicine in Doha, Qatar, where she collaborated with Dr. Cristina Maccalli.
In 2019, Dr. Turdo was appointed Research Fellow (RTDA MEDS/26D) at the University of Palermo, and in 2023, she became Assistant Professor (RTDB) (MEDS/26D).
