Dr. Francesco Orilio joined the Cellular and Molecular Oncology Laboratory in November 2024, where he explores the molecular mechanisms underlying tumor progression through advanced bioinformatics approaches. Specifically, he focuses on transcriptomic and genomic data analysis, the integration of computational models to study ncRNAs in the tumor microenvironment, and the application of machine learning techniques for the interpretation of big data in oncology.

Previously, he worked at the Computational Biomedicine Laboratory, where he developed data mining and artificial intelligence methods for clinical data analysis. In 2023, he received his Master’s degree in Medical, Veterinary, and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology from the University of Turin, with a thesis entitled “Identification of Electromyographic Patterns in ALS Using Machine Learning”.

In November 2024, he began his PhD in Precision Medicine at the University of Palermo, focusing on the role of ncRNAs in the tumor microenvironment. His research, culminating in a thesis entitled “Interaction Between ncRNA, Cancer Cells, and Obesity in 3D Models: Regulation of CD44”, explores the molecular mechanisms underlying tumor progression.
